AMERICAN MEGAZINE

American Megazine is a very large, self-published "zine."  Each page is 60" tall and 38" wide. I began the Megazine as a way to show images I had been making of megachurches. It seemed too oppressive to put them all on the wall as large prints, but I wanted to keep the scale of the images big. Mega! Since I make publications and I have access to a large printer, this format seemed to be a natural solution. There have been three issues so far. Issues 1 and 3 feature photographs of megachurches. Issue 2 combines transcripts from psychic readings with images of storefront psychics.

American Megazine has been seen around the world, bringing images of American vernacular architecture to Switzerland, Japan, France, New York, and Wisconsin.

American Megazine is the world's largest self-published zine. This video was made at the first public showing of American Megazine #1, at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, where it was part of an exhibition of work by C.O.L.A. Fellowship recipients. In this documentation, mega-girls Alyse and Remi flip through the pages as a crowd gathers. AmericanMegazine.com LisaAnneAuerbach.com
